KC Climate Action Plan

What is it? It's an impressive and bold plan to get the KC region to NET ZERO greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

“The Kansas City Regional Climate Action Plan (CAP) aims to transform the metropolitan area into a more resilient, equitable and healthy community. An ambitious set of interrelated strategies will help to mitigate climate change by achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and adapt to and bounce forward from the many risks that climate change poses. Linkages among plan strategies are abundant and intentional. Our plan is ambitious, comprehensive, and urgent.”

Karen Clawson

Karen is a Principal Planner and manager of the Air Quality and RideshareKC programs at Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), the Kansas City region’s council of governments and metropolitan planning organization. She received a Master’s degree in urban planning and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from the University of Kansas.

Her career has centered on the integration of environmental and transportation policy, as well as community outreach and engagement with a focus on underserved and vulnerable communities. Prior to her work serving the Air Quality and RideshareKC program, she managed long-range transit planning at MARC and supported project management for the initial planning of the KC Streetcar and managed the development of the Smart Moves Regional Transit and Mobility Plan. Her current work focuses on climate resilience, mobility, and jobs access, and improving air quality for all residents in the Kansas City area.

Ashley Sadowksi

Ashley’s commitment to community well-being and forging collaborative partnerships is exemplified in her role as the Executive Director of Kansas City’s first Building Energy Exchange. She works closely with public and private agencies, Climate Action KC, Mid-America Regional Council, and many others to support the real estate community in reaching carbon neutrality by 2040. 

In her 14 years practicing architecture, Ashley has managed the design and construction of several million dollars’ worth of community assets including affordable housing projects, urban redevelopment, and parks revitalization.  She sits on the City of Kansas City Missouri’s Planning Commission and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kansas, professional certification in Real Estate Development from New York University, and a Master of Urban Planning from University of Southern California.
