BIM Systems to Manage FM

Presentation Synopsis:

Using BIM (Building Information Modeling) to manage your facilities:  What do you do with a BIM model once your building is built?  The presentation will focus on two case studies that transformed Building Information Models into management tools.  Find out how to achieve the maximum benefit from your BIM deliverable by engaging in the development of the model during design; transforming BIM model output to meet the requirements of your facility stakeholders.

 Vicky Borchers, Associate, LEED AP

Ms. Borchers is a senior Architect and the Architectural Production Manager in the Aviation & Federal Division at Burns & McDonnell, currently tasked with analyzing and improving production methods in the Architectural Department. Her expertise lies in BIM Modeling, business systems analysis, data analysis and modeling, spatial programming, computerized maintenance and management systems, and building design. She has over 30 years of experience in FM solutions, teaching BIM, and managing BIM projects. She was the BIM manager on the Heart of Doha Project that included 82 separate BIM models that were managed in a single BIM coordination file. At the time of design, this was the second largest BIM model ever created. Project Size: 124,290 SM site, 4,000,000 SM of built-out space.

 Mike Mehrwin, BIM Lead

Mike is the BIM Lead for Midwest Construction Services at CRB, furthering BIM efforts in the field and throughout the Construction Process. Bringing 17 years of Project Management, Design, and BIM Coordination for Large Retail Establishments, Distribution Centers, Labs, Highways, Water Treatment Facilities, Federal Buildings, as well as current projects in Food, Biotechnical and Pharmaceutical Process Facilities, Mike focuses on a well-rounded practical approach to utilizing Building Information Modeling resources to increase efficiencies, coordination, and access to information on site.

 David Hughes, Lead Piping and Mechanical Designer 

David is a lead piping and mechanical designer with 15 years of experience creating 2D and 3D layouts, models and production drawings for food, biological and pharmaceutical process facilities, aircraft production facilities, embassies and aircraft carriers. He has headed modeling teams on projects ranging from small facility retrofits to the 1.2 million square foot Baxalta Covington Facility project.

Parking:

CRB training room is located on 4th floor of 1251 NW Briarcliff Parkway, KCMO, 64116, in the Hilltop Office Building. Parking is free, and there should be parking available on ground level, or lower parking lot by garage entrance. Guests are not allowed to park in the designated Courtyard Marriott parking spots near the hotel (they are labeled).
